There were some surprises for me in 2010.Jonathan Franzen surprised me with the depth, power, humor, and compassion of Freedom.Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand was just a joy to read. In Work Song, Ivan Doig brought back one of my favorite characters from Whistling Season, Morrie, (Ivan Doig books are always wonderful). Matterhorn is a powerhouse, one of the definitive novels on Vietnam. Heidi Durrow’s The Girl Who Fell From The Sky showed an amazing strength. There were quite a few wonderful books in 2010
