Barbara Corrado Pope will be at Sunriver Books & Music Saturday December 18th at 5:00 PM for a presentation on The Blood of Lorraine.. She writes a marvelous mystery series set in France during the late 1800’s. She brings this period to life! This is historic fiction at its best, reading her books is like a seamless step back in time, you feel you are experiencing what life would have been like in this era through the story.
Pope’s first book, Cezanne’s Quarry, is influenced by her passion for art. Magistrate Bernard Martin is in a tough position. He has only a short time to decide if the artist killed Solange and left her body in the quarry.
The Blood of Lorraine has Magistrate Bernard Martin and his wife Clarie anticipating their first child. Small town life in Nancy agrees with them, Bernard enjoys walking to his office, he finds his neighborhood comfortable. France is in turmoil over the discovery that a Jewish officer, Dreyfus, had passed secrets to the Germans. Even so Bernard is shocked by the amount of anti-Semitism he finds in his new community. A child dies; his small mutilated body is blamed on a traveling Jewish tinker. Bernard is given the case; it is like sitting on a powder keg!
Pope has crafted characters you will care about and want to re-visit, this is an excellent series! Barbara Corrado Pope has put her training as a Historian to good use! She is a professor at the University of Oregon.
