Vikram Chandra

Vikram Chandra is one of the brightest authors of our times, a truly gifted writer. I enjoyed Sacred Games so much; I read it twice the year it came out and was even more enthralled the second time. It was my pick for the best book of 2007! Sacred Games begins with the death of a gangster in Mumbai. What was he up to in his final days? Mumbai cop Sartaj Singh must unravel the last days of the gangster's life before time runs out. The threads of the story will reach from the violent partition of India and Pakistan to terrorism in present day London. Sacred Games goes beyond the theme of good and evil, delving into the consequences of actions taken long ago on the present. Beyond its important insights into hate, prejudice, nationality, and zealotry, the book is a rousing good story. This is a page turner! Even the minor characters are richly drawn and involving. Mumbai comes alive on the pages. I did not want the book to end!
