Arlene Sachitano

Arlene Sachitano's series is set in the fictional town of Foggy Point, between Squim and Port Angeles Washington. It is pretty country with a rugged coastline and the majestic Olympic Mountains. I enjoy books with a northwest setting, especially one as spectacular as the Olympic Peninsula. The first book in her series, Quilt as Desired, introduces Harriet Truman a young widow. Harriet's aunt Beth thinks she has been spending too many years grieving, she needs to get reconnected with life. Beth lures Harriet to Foggy Point, announces her retirement and turns over her quilting shop to her stunned niece. Before Harriet can catch her breath one of her aunt's best friends and a member of The Loose Threads (the local quilting group) is murdered. The murdered woman just happens to have a son, Aiden, who is easy on the eyes and finds Harriet attractive. In Quilter's Knot Harriet is persuaded to join The Loose Threads for a weeklong quilting retreat at the Angel Harbor Folk Art Center. No sooner have classes begun than a teacher is murdered. Harriet and her pals are up to their necks in solving the crime while attending classes and working on their quilts. Aiden happens to be in Angel Harbor too, he is eager to have a closer relationship with Harriet and is making some progress. Arlene Sachitano fills her series with quilting detail and sympathetic characters. Harriet is a likeable sleuth; she is a welcome addition to the mystery genre. Arlene Sachitano gives an interesting presentation if you enjoy either quilting or mysteries; be sure and join us on the day of Sunriver's Annual Quilt Show for a fun event!
