2008's Top Ten list of Non Fiction books has some books that are wonderful to read, it also has holds darkness. The Dark Side by Jane Mayer was short listed for the National Book Award, it tells of disturbing actions our government has taken. I was inspired to read The Dark Side after reading Isabel Allende's book, My Invented Country, and watching a special on PBS about Chile and General Pinochet. It made me think it might be our duty to really know what our government is up to. Jane Mayer documents actions in The Dark Side that I found deeply disturbing. I do not think we should turn away, I think we should become aware.
